Investing Myths Quiz Guide: Myth or Fact Game

Investing myths are ideas many people believe that simply are not true, and our quiz helps you tell them apart from facts. Each round is short and kind. You learn something every time, even when you guess wrong.

What the Investing Myths Game Is

Myth or Fact: The Investing Quiz is a free game on Positive Stocks. You read one statement about investing. Then you decide if it is a myth or a fact. There are ten statements in each round. You can play it any time at our Myth or Fact game page.

The game is built for beginners. You do not need an account, a broker, or any money. You only need a few minutes and some curiosity.

Why myths? Because many people form their first ideas about money from rumors, movies, and chats with friends. Some of those ideas are helpful. Others quietly hold people back. A myth like ‘you need a lot of money to start’ can keep a person away for years. Clearing it up can change what feels possible.

How to Play

  • Read the statement on the screen.
  • Choose Myth if you think it is false, or Fact if you think it is true.
  • Read the short explanation that appears after you answer.
  • Move on to the next statement until you finish all ten.
  • Check your score, then play again to see if you can improve.

There is no timer and no penalty for a wrong answer. The goal is to learn, not to rush. Take your time with each explanation, because that is where most of the learning happens.

What Each Type of Question Teaches

The statements fall into a few simple groups. Here are some real examples, with the right answers and the reasons behind them.

Starting small

Statement: You need a lot of money to start investing. The answer is Myth. Many brokers allow fractional shares, which means you can own a slice of a share. That makes a small start possible. Starting small is a gentle way to learn how markets move.

Spreading risk

Statement: Spreading your money across many investments can reduce the harm if one of them does badly. The answer is Fact. This idea is called diversification. It does not remove risk. It does help keep one weak company from ruining your whole plan.

Price versus value

Statement: A stock with a low share price is always a bargain. The answer is Myth. A share price tells you what one share costs. It does not tell you what the company is worth or how many shares exist. A cheap share can belong to a struggling business.

Time and growth

Statement: Compound growth means you can earn returns on your earlier returns. The answer is Fact. When gains stay invested, they can grow on their own. Over long periods, this effect can be large. That is why time matters so much. You can see it in action with our free calculators.

Risk and reward

Statement: An investment can offer high returns and also be guaranteed safe. The answer is Myth. Higher possible returns usually come with higher risk. If someone promises both, treat that as a warning sign and ask questions.

One more idea helps with the harder statements. Ask yourself whether the claim describes how things usually work, or only how they sometimes work. A statement can be true in one case and still be a myth as a general rule. Separating the two is a useful habit in investing and in daily life. It also keeps you calm when you hear a bold claim from someone who sounds sure.

Also remember that facts in this game are timeless. They do not depend on today’s news or any single stock. That is why they are worth learning well.

Tips for Scoring Higher

  • Watch for absolute words. Words like ‘always’, ‘never’, ‘guaranteed’ and ‘cannot’ often point to a myth. Investing rarely works in absolutes.
  • Ask what is being promised. If a statement sounds too good to be true, it probably is a myth.
  • Think about time. Many facts about investing are about patience, steady habits, and cost over many years.
  • Look for the balance. Real investing facts usually include both a benefit and a trade off.
  • Read every explanation. Even right answers come with a reason you can keep.

If you score low at first, that is normal. Most people carry a few myths. Finding them is the point of the game.

How to Use the Game to Learn

Play once for fun and see where you land. Then play again and read each explanation slowly. Write down any word you do not know. You can look it up in our investing glossary, which explains terms in plain words.

Next, try a different style of practice. Our Stockvert game lets you explore ideas by playing, and Stock Jeopardy gives you a quiz show feel with topics you can pick. Moving between games helps ideas stick, because you see them in more than one way.

Want a calm place to begin? Our free starter guide walks through the basics step by step. It pairs well with the quiz. Read a section, then play a round to check what stayed with you.

You can also play with someone else. Take turns answering and talk about the reasons. Explaining an answer out loud is a strong way to learn it.

Common Questions

Is the quiz free?

Yes. The game is free to play, and you do not need to sign up. You can play as many rounds as you like.

Do I need any investing experience?

No. The statements are written for beginners. If you have never bought a share, you can still play and learn from every explanation.

Will the quiz tell me what to buy?

No. The game teaches ideas, not choices. It never tells you to buy or sell anything. It only helps you understand how investing works.

Are the answers ever opinions?

No. Each statement was chosen because it is either clearly true or clearly false, and it stays true over time. We avoid prices, news, and predictions.

How often should I play?

A short round a few times a week works well. Small, steady practice builds knowledge, much like steady saving builds wealth.

Learning to spot investing myths takes practice, and every round makes you a little sharper. Be patient with yourself, keep asking good questions, and come back whenever you want another go.
